Certification States
The seven trust states
Every record exists in exactly one trust state at any time. Each state has a defined color, description, purpose, and precise public meaning — so the status behind a scan is never ambiguous.
- Pending
The record has entered the registry and is awaiting review.
- Purpose
- Acknowledges intake without asserting any trust.
- Operational effect
- Not operationally trusted. Treat as unconfirmed.
- Registry consequence
- Logged in the registry; no certification trust state asserted.
- Status meaning
- No certification confidence yet. Do not rely on this record.
- Verified
Submitted documentation and identity have been confirmed.
- Purpose
- Establishes that the underlying evidence is authentic.
- Operational effect
- Evidence confirmed; not yet cleared for full reliance.
- Registry consequence
- Underlying dossier validated; certification still pending issuance.
- Status meaning
- Evidence checks out, but full certification is not yet granted.
- Certified
The record meets all standards and holds an active certification.
- Purpose
- The authoritative trust designation of the registry.
- Operational effect
- Active certification trust state. Reliable at time of check.
- Registry consequence
- Certification active; operational recognition still requires a QR Registered registration code.
- Status meaning
- Active and trustworthy. This is the confidence behind the scan.
- Suspended
Certification is temporarily paused pending resolution of an issue.
- Purpose
- Protects the public while a record is under review.
- Operational effect
- Reliance withheld while the record is under review.
- Registry consequence
- Trust state paused in the registry; history retained.
- Status meaning
- Certification is not active. Treat with caution.
- Revoked
Certification has been permanently withdrawn.
- Purpose
- Removes trust when standards are no longer met.
- Operational effect
- Do not rely on the record. Trust has been removed.
- Registry consequence
- Withdrawal recorded permanently in the audit trail.
- Status meaning
- Not active and not trustworthy. The record failed compliance.
- Expired
The certification term has elapsed without renewal.
- Purpose
- Enforces time-bound accountability.
- Operational effect
- Lapsed. Not currently reliable until renewed.
- Registry consequence
- Term elapsed in the registry; renewal reinstates the trust state.
- Status meaning
- No longer active. Renewal is required to restore trust.
- Archived
The record is retired and retained for historical reference.
- Purpose
- Preserves an auditable, permanent history.
- Operational effect
- Not for active use. Reference only.
- Registry consequence
- Preserved permanently as historical, auditable record.
- Status meaning
- Inactive by design. Kept for the audit trail only.
